The crane drum is one of the main parts of the lift and is made of high thickness pipes. Slots with definite steps and arcs are created on the surface of the drums. The arcs of the grooves correspond to the diameter of the tow wire and their pitch is slightly larger than the diameter of the tow wire. Dramas are divided into simple and grooved categories. The towline must be in the direction of the drum grooves. The drums have different length, diameter and pitch specifications depending on the capacity and type of lift and the manufacturer.
The drum is moved by the engine and gearbox. The tow rope is placed on the drum and fills the entire length of the drum. Regular placement of the tow wire on the drum is done by the tow wire regulator (lifting belt). The movement of the drum and the opening and closing of the tow wire allow the hoisting operation.
Tow hoist drums are one of the most vulnerable parts of a crane hoist, and drum grooves wear over a long period of time. Crane drum wear accelerates tow wire rupture. Replacing the drum in the forklifts is not easy and you have to remove all the forklifts including the motors, brakes, hooks and so on. Therefore, the hoisting drum is very important.
